This role:

In this role, your days will be diverse. You will work in all areas of The Happy Hound: daycare and boarding, client care and services, and park oversight and member and guest support. You will be engaging with and interacting with the public every day and will be a forward facing representative of The Happy Hound values and services.

Opportunities:

You will be working closely with our dog trainers and management. We are avid supporters of education and building careers. The Hours:

This is a PT job with approximately 15 - 25 hours a week available. We have an anticipated schedule and can work around some other commitments, so flexibility can be given and will be required.

Evenings, weekends, and some holidays required.

Ongoing responsibilities:

• Working in dog daycare and overnight care
• Working in the play parks. Supervision to ensure members are following policies and procedures. Providing guidance to members as required and interceding as required. 
• Other duties associated with each responsibility (such as cleaning, client services and communications, etc).

Wage: Starting at $17/hour

Professional Experience Requirements:

• Must love dogs and helping people.
• Must be comfortable in an off-leash play setting with varying numbers of dogs of varying breeds, temperaments, sizes, and energy levels.
• Must have good people skills and customer service and conflict resolution skills
• Previous experience in a pet facility or pet care environment a plus
• Basic understanding of dog communication
• Computer proficiency
• Excellent work history and references
• Must be over 18 and authorized to work in Canada

OVERNIGHT RUFFEREE POSITION – THE HAPPY HOUND SPRAY & PLAY

We are looking to fill an overnight Dog Daycare Attendant shift to work various shifts 6:00PM to 6:30AM, nights TBD and could vary, including weekends and some holidays. This position will monitor and care for dogs in a homestyle sleeping space and provide the highest standard of care for our guests.

The Happy Hound is a positive-reinforcement facility, and no aversive techniques, tools, or management methods are used.

This position reports directly to management, with accountability to the team leads/trainers.

The ideal candidate is someone who is physically active, able to multitask, has a positive attitude, excellent client care skills, and can keep the dogs settled and calm. Cleaning, keeping close watch of the guests and reporting for the morning is required.

Experience with dogs is an asset. There is opportunity for this position to evolve to offer daytime shifts as well. 

Shifts could be between 9 to 12 hours long (6pm – 6 am, or 9pm – 6 am), and will be scheduled in collaboration with the successful candidate.

Job Type: Part-time, with FT potential if desired

Salary: From $17.00 per hour

Essential Responsibilities:

• Overnight monitoring and care:
  • Ensure calm and relaxed sleep and relaxation environments for guests. Ensure all boarding directives and instructions are followed for every guest and the highest standard of care is provided.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the space through timely picking up of debris, cleaning after potty accidents, managing slip risks and  other safety hazards, removing trash, etc.
  • Be prepared to handle minor first aid situations and quickly respond to any       emergencies that may arise.
• Daycare monitoring: Possibility for position to grow into daytime hours if desired
  • Manage safe and controlled playgroups to ensure safe, positive play and rest, and oversee the total care of each day’s guest.
  • Provide exceptional care to our daycare guests. Ensure daily daycare schedule and services are completed, and special services fulfilled.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the daycare space and park play areas.
  • Communicate to team leads/management concerns or communication needs about dogs.
• Front desk:
  • Provide exceptional and welcoming client service care by welcoming guests, checking them in and out according to protocol and process,  informing guests of services and options, and ensuring they are familiar with park expectations and guest obligations
  • Create and sustain long-term professional relationships with  guests 
• Cleaning:
  • Perform cleaning duties including laundry, washing dishes, cleaning floors, washing fences and structures and other duties required to keep The Happy Hound clean and sanitized for daily play and activities       
• Assist with additional tasks and projects as asked by management.

Teamwork & Communication

• Work      as a team to ensure all daily tasks and duties are being overseen and all parts of the park are working harmoniously, with each employee in support of the others.
• Communicate support or other needs to the team
• Read daily communications and take note of all comings/goings, special      instructions, etc.
• Ensure that all communication is passed along to next shift
• Assist management in ensuring that all policies and procedures are being followed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift to 50 pounds
• Handle animals weighing up to 150 pounds
• Work standing, walking and bending for 6-8 hour shifts
• Stamina  to work with energetic dogs, while ensuring our facility is inviting and sanitary

Experience and Qualifications:

• Must  love dogs and helping people.

This is more than just a dog trainer position, both in influence through the position and in the responsibilities of the position. 

• As a trainer, you will help influence our communities, impact dogs’ and owners’ lives, raise awareness of the value of good and knowledgeable training and engagement opportunities, and will have a large reach through our communities. 

• Beyond that as a trainer, you will be an integral part of the day-to-day operations at the Happy Hound and will help shape its culture, its services, and how we deliver to both our clients and our employees.

Leading up to open, there will part-time hours available while we collaborate and work on the programs that we will be rolling out upon open. Once open, we have planned this position to be full-time, but for the right person can be flexible with part-time hours.

Flexibility in hours available to work, especially in the opening months, is required, as we figure out the optimal schedule for training services in the park and opportunities for private training opportunities and demand. 

As we progress, there is room for this position to focus more solely on training services with commission pay (class, in-park, private, etc) and less on in-park or employee oversight.

Professional Experience Requirements:

Dog training:

• Have your CPDT-KA, VSA-CDT, KPA-CDT or DBTMc with at least two years’ training experience or a minimum of one year of dog training experience with several years’ experience within the dog care industry (daycare or boarding environment) 
• Espouse modern positive-reinforcement training methods

Other:

• At least one year experience in a supervisor, management, or employee-building or leadership position in any industry

The position:

• You will collaborate with Management on the programs and services we offer, including our park program, our dog daycare program, and our training services (in-park, class, and private one-on-one sessions) and will implement and oversee the programs and schedule.

Ongoing responsibilities:

• Working in small dog luxury daycare, including overseeing evaluation program, daily programs and training employees on fulfilling responsibilities. This daycare is a luxury small-dog daycare with a maximum capacity of less than 20 dogs.
• Working in the play parks. Supervision to ensure members are following policies and procedures. Providing guidance to members as required and interceding as required. 
• Employee training: Training employees on dog behaviour and body language and collaborating with management on implementing employee training
• Dog Training: Collaborating to develop and implement training programs in the park, class training and private training programs
• Other duties associated with each responsibility (such as cleaning, client services and communications, etc).

Salary commensurate with experience; paid benefits after successful completion of probation period; paid time off and earned days off.
