On average, dogs spend about 50% of each day sleeping, 30% awake but relaxing, and just 20% being active.
For daycare, this means our responsibility is to ensure we support positive experiences and create opportunity for both awake but relaxing times and active times. For boarding, that responsibility extends to the additional 50% they need of good sleep.
This is why we practice a very intentional model of rotating rest and relaxation that considers where each dog is on the social comfort spectrum with their need for a balance of sleep, relaxation and activity.
Where we particularly differ from traditional daycare models is our attention to and integration of the awake relaxed part of your dog’s day and the role that plays in your dog’s overall wellbeing—both with us and at home.
We work with the dogs in our care each day throughout the day to reinforce and practice settling and resting. This is included and a built-in part of our daycare and boarding program.
During break time from daycare activity, our trainers and team spend time with your pup doing settle sessions and positively reinforcing their ability to disengage from the physical and mental alertness and engagement of play time.
Each day your dog is with us, whether for daycare or boarding, we send a detailed daily email that includes how your dog is doing during rest periods.
If we believe your pup needs additional sessions with our trainer to help their progress in settling and achieving awake relaxation, we will let you know and recommend scheduling settle sessions.
When you purchase a package of scheduled settle sessions for your dog for daycare or boarding, you are invited to schedule FREE one-on-one in-person weekend settle sessions with our trainer during the period your dog is receiving scheduled settle sessions.
During these short sessions, you will see first-hand the methods used, be able to ask questions, practice with your dog and get any other support for helping your dog.
You can schedule these online through your account.
If you haven't purchased a package, but want to schedule a one-on-one training session to help your dog, you can do so for a discounted one-on-one training rate.
Our trainers use techniques that encourage your dog to naturally settle on their own. Being to able self-regulate will translate into their being more relaxed and calm, even when you’re not around.
We use reward-based methods to make the learning process enjoyable and effective by reinforcing good behavior and helping your dog feel confident and comfortable. We may incorporate break-time kongs or other enrichment to support the work we do during these sessions
We have a variety of enrichment activities and options to support the work we’re doing with your dog and give your dog the best experience.
Settle sessions take place with our certified trainer while your dog is in daycare or is boarding with us. You can purchase online, in-person or over the phone.
