Real-life learning, built into your dog's real day

Adult, ADolescent and Puppy Day Training

Day Train helps dogs build reliable skills that carry into everyday life.  Our Day Train program combines structured learning, social experience, emotional regulation, and thoughtful rest to create lasting progress without overwhelm.

Why Day Train Works

Dogs don’t live in a bubble—they live in a world of distractions and challenges, but should always feel connected, calm and confident in the environment they're in and with the people around them.

Day Train allows dogs to practice skills in real-life contexts, around people, movement, and distractions, while still having the rest and support they need to stay regulated and able to learn.

Because training is integrated into the day, dogs are:

  • More emotionally balanced
  • Better able to generalize skills
  • Less overwhelmed than in environments not personalized to their unique needs

Learning sticks best when dogs feel safe, supported, and not overstimulated—and that’s exactly how our days are designed.

Is Day Train Right For Your Dog?

Day Train is a great fit for dogs who:

  • Need help with focus or impulse control
  • Struggle with excitement or overwhelm in stimulating environments
  • Need support building confidence and resilience
  • Benefit from practicing skills around distractions
  • Have learned cues at home but struggle to apply them in real life

Whether your dog is a puppy just starting out or an adolescent or adult who needs skill refinement, Day Train meets them where they are and helps bring them to where you would like them to be.

With all training, it is always important to keep in mind the training builds skills, but does not create a "finished" dog.

What Day Train Includes

Day Train is a 12-day training program integrated into your dog’s daycare day. Your program includes two private 30-minute one-on-one sessions—a mid-point session to review progress and a graduation session to transfer skills and prepare for success at home.

Each Day Train day includes:

  • Trainer-led learning sessions tailored to your dog’s goals and readiness
  • Guided practice and support of skills in (movement, greetings, transitions, distractions)
  • Social exposure and activity time matched to your dog’s comfort level
  • Structured rest to help dogs process learning
  • Support for emotional regulation and settling

Training focus areas may include:

  • Obedience-cue reinforcement and skill development
  • Impulse control and self-regulation
  • Focus and engagement around distractions
  • Polite greetings and appropriate social behaviour
  • Confidence-building and resilience

We challenge dogs thoughtfully—never pushing beyond what they can handle emotionally.

How the Day Train Journey Works

Step 1: Placement Meet & Greet

We get to know your dog’s comfort, confidence, and communication style so we can recommend the right daycare pathway.

Step 2: Pathway Confirmation

We begin with a first day of daycare before the Day Train program beings.  We use this first day to additionally get to know your dog, their comfort with us, their readiness for learning in a day train environment, and any other supports required. After this day, we build your dog's Day Train curriculum and plan.

Step 3: Training Begins

We schedule your dog's Day Train days, with training taking place while your dog is with us during those days. This form allows them to learn and practice skills and desired behaviours while still having structured rest, all within a predictable schedule and routine that supports learning and progression.

Step 4: Progress Updates & In-Person Sessions

You receive:

  • daily email updates and  curriculum notes
  • four videos throughout the program
  • final summary notes
  • scheduled midpoint and graduation sessions to help transfer skills home.

This structured progression allows learning to build steadily and sustainably.

Day Train supports dogs of all ages by integrating intentional learning into the schedule and structure of their day.  Day Train is adaptable—whether your dog is just starting out with foundations or building advanced real-world skills later in life.

Puppy Foundations Within Day Train

Puppy Foundations is part of our Day Training program and supports both obedience skills and the environmental, social, and settling learning puppies need to thrive. Sessions are short, positive, and carefully paced to support development without overwhelm.

Puppy training commonly focuses on:

  • Foundational obedience cues (sit, down, recall foundations, leash skills)
  • Engagement and attention
  • Calm behaviour around people and other dogs
  • Handling comfort and cooperative care
  • Learning to settle and rest appropriately
  • Confidence in new environments and routines

Training is always matched to your puppy’s age, stamina, energy and learning readiness.

Adult & Adolescent Skills Within Day Train

At all ages, Day Training supports obedience, emotional regulation, and real-world skill application. Every session is customized to your dog’s needs, confidence, and learning readiness.

Common training focus areas include:

  • Obedience cue reinforcement and skill development
  • Impulse control and self regulation
  • Focus and engagement around distractions
  • Polite greetings and appropriate social behaviour
  • Confidence-building and resilience

We want you to feel connected to your dog’s progress.

You can expect:

  • A detailed email update after each visit with notes on training focus, social experiences, settling, and overall wellbeing
  • Four  videos throughout the program
  • A midpoint session and a graduation session to review progress, demonstrate skills, and plan next steps

Training is most effective when you understand what your dog is learning and how to support it at home.

Every dog progresses at their own pace. Behaviour change is influenced by many factors, and our focus is thoughtful, lasting progress—not quick fixes.

Day Train follows the same thoughtful care model as our daycare programs. Dogs are individuals, and their needs can shift from day to day.

Based on what your dog shows us, we may:

  •  Adjust their daycare pathway or daily structure to better support their comfort, confidence, and emotional regulation
  • Provide additional rest or settling support if they need help relaxing
  • Recommend settle sessions or other supportive services for future visits

If we guide your dog into a different care pathway to better support their wellbeing, any difference in program rates will apply.

These decisions are always made in your dog’s best interest and are part of creating safe, positive learning experiences.

Trainer Observation & Integration

Because training occurs within your dog’s daycare day, our trainers observe how learning carries over into social interactions, rest periods, and transitions. This allows us to adjust pacing, reinforce progress, and provide guidance that reflects your dog’s real-world behaviour—not just isolated training moments.

Day Training Program Options

Day Training is a 12-day Program. Training intensity options available once your dog’s daycare pathway is established.

Day Training pricing is based on two components:

  • your dog’s daycare pathway, which determines the care structure for their day
  • your selected training intensity, which determines how many trainer-led sessions take place during each daycare visit

Your dog’s daycare pathway is guided through their Meet & Greet and first day of daycare. Once placement is confirmed, you may select the Day Training option that best fits your goals.

Common Questions about Day Training

Please reach us at info@thehappyhoundplaypark.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. All Day Training sessions for all ages take place during your dog’s regular daycare day. Dogs must complete a Meet & Greet and a first day of daycare so we can confirm appropriate placement and ensure your dog is comfortable in our environment before training begins

Training sessions are delivered one-on-one under guidance of a certified trainer, outside of group activity time. This allows for focused learning while still supporting your dog’s social, emotional, and rest needs through their daycare pathway.

The structure and delivery are the same. Puppy Day Training is for dogs under six months, with training goals, pacing, and expectations adapted to developmental stage. As dogs mature, Day Training may focus more heavily on obedience, behaviour, and real-world skill application. All training is individualized.

Training intensity is selected after your dog’s daycare placement is confirmed. Our team is happy to guide recommendations based on your dog’s needs, learning readiness, and goals. Many families begin with a lower intensity and adjust as progress and confidence build.

Yes. Training programs include regular video updates so you can see progress and handling techniques, as well as a mid-point and a final private training session to review learning and support follow-through at home.

Yes. Training may focus on obedience skills, behavioural support, confidence building, or emotional regulation, depending on your dog’s needs and readiness. Our trainers guide priorities based on what will add genuine value to your dog’s day.
