About Our Boarding

Comfort for your dog; peace of mind for you

A boarding stay should be about so much more than just a safe space to play and sleep; it's about looking out for all aspects of your dog's day, from sleeping, to resting, to eating, to activity.

We ensure your dog is thriving while with us and matched with the best activity program for them. Every day, we keep you connected with how your dog is doing in all parts of their day; we know your peace of mind depends on being as connected with their comfort and care as possible.

We're designed differently from traditional or open space kennels.  We offer:

  • large private sleep and eating spaces for each dog
  • an activity program matched to your dog's social comfort and interest
  • very small play groups, with an attendant hands-on in the group

Whether you need short- or long-term overnight boarding care, our programs support your dog's wellbeing and offer you the peace of mind you deserve.

We offer dog boarding for:

  • dogs of all sizes
  • intact dogs (over and under 8 months old)
  • nervous or anxious dogs
  • dogs who cannot be social with others

During the day, your dog participates in one of our daycare programs, and for night we have several sleep kennel styles and sleep areas.

Each guest has a private space for sleeping and for meals, and siblings can share sleep spaces (based on availability).

Boarding Features:

  • IN-PERSON OVERNIGHT STAFF
  • Small play groups of 15 or less with an attendant hands-on in group
  • Three daycare activity program options
  • Large, comfortable and private sleep spaces
  • Daily email update
  • Indoor & outdoor parks
  • Trainer-led programs
  • Enrichment options
  • Training options
  • Holiday and weekend check-in and out

The Difference Our Boarding Makes

Private Kennels

Play Groups by Confidence

Small Play Groups

Better rest for your dog

A private, safe space allows your dog to fully relax and decompress from the demands of social engagement and activity time and gives your dog the safe space they need to quietly enjoy their meals.

Small Play Groups

Play Groups by Confidence

Small Play Groups

Safer play and more insight

Groups of 15 dogs or less, with someone hands-on supervising within the group, means we can watch out for the subtlest of body language, support your dog during play, make qualified, informed suggestions and keep you well informed on how your dog is doing.

Greater comfort and confidence

A great play experience requires so much more than being matched by size. Play groups with consideration for size AND for social comfort and confidence means your dog's experience is exactly what they need to thrive.

Overnight In-Person Care

Structured Days of Play and Rest

Play Groups by Confidence

Better health and safety

Sleep quality affects your dog's social patience, interest and their immune system. By knowing your dog's sleep quality, we better understand their social threshold for safe play.

Our Boarding Difference

Small Play Groups

Small numbers both in play group and overnight means very personalized care in the most stress-free environment possible.

Our play groups have 15 or fewer dogs and an attendant in the group so your dog can truly settle in and play in safety.

In-Building 24/7 Supervision

24/7 In-Person Supervision ensures we know how your dog is doing during all times of their stay.

Large, Private & Separate Sleep Spaces

We have large private sleep and eating spaces for all our guests in 16 sq ft, 24  sq ft or 32 sq ft kennels that are 6 ft tall and fully enclosed for safety.  We also have standard crates available for dogs who prefer smaller sleep spaces.

Our sleep spaces are separate from our play spaces, and we have several sleep areas that allow us to find the best space for your dog's comfort.

Enrichment Opportunities

We have a well-thought-out enrichment program that includes food enrichment, activity enrichment and training enrichment.

We can accommodate dietary limitations and can suggest enrichment activities or other enrichment that may benefit your dog.

Programs Matched to Your Dog

  • Social play: for dogs who are confident in a social group and enjoy playing with others
  • Confidence-building play: for dogs who are a little more anxious or apprehensive and need support building their comfort and confidence
  • Personal Play: a private program for dogs who don't enjoy time with others or can't be in a social group with other dogs

Daily Email Updates

Our daily email update gives you valuable information about your dog's stay, including:

  • how they're doing in their activity or play program
  • how they're doing during rest time
  • any challenges they may be experiencing
  • any suggestions we may have
  • how they are eating
  • how they are sleeping
  • medication administration record

Settle Session Support

For boarding, a dog's ability to rest well and calmly makes all the difference.

To help your dog with this, we spend time during each rest period actively engaging with and supporting your dog in learning and practicing awake relaxation.

We keep you informed of how your dog is doing and have additional trainer support available to ensure your dog is thriving in all aspects of their stay.

3 Components of Care

On average, dogs spend about 50% of each day sleeping, 30% awake but relaxing, and just 20% being active.

Our responsibility is to ensure we support positive experiences and create opportunity and support good sleep, positive awake but relaxing times and enriching active times.

ACTIVITY

AWAKE & RELAXED

AWAKE & RELAXED

The importance of regulated activity

Our activity programs provide very personalized play groups and programs that match where your dog falls along the social comfort spectrum, whether they enjoy other dogs or not.

We have a trained attendant in each play group building personal relationships and learning your dog’s unique personality and play style.

Being invested and involved in your dog’s activity means this essential component of care is an entirely positive experience, provides the most value for your dog.

AWAKE & RELAXED

AWAKE & RELAXED

AWAKE & RELAXED

The importance of relaxed wakefulness

Dogs need time away from the social-battery-depleting experience of social groups; without it, many dogs become overstimulated and begin to make unsafe play choices. Others withdraw and must actively use their body language to ask to be left alone.

Our responsibility is to safely create and manage social experiences while supporting your dog’s ability to be awake but relaxed and offering the reprieve they need to rest and re-charge.

Our goals are to provide your dog with the best experience possible and to transform their overall ability to engage with their environment and regulate their responses to experiences.

SLEEP

AWAKE & RELAXED

SLEEP

The importance of good sleep

Good sleep is important during your dog’s regular life, but is even more important when your dog is away from home in a different environment with different dogs and different people.

A night of no sleep or a poor sleep impacts a dog’s threshold for social time and overall impacts their wellbeing.

To support good sleep, we have an attendant in the building overnight who can modify where your dog sleeps and help them achieve a calm state so they can recharge for another day.

We also have large private spaces for each dog so they can sleep without needing to be aware of open area surroundings or of being bumped or approached by another dog.

The Importance of The Three Components of Care for Your Dog's TIME AWaY FROM YOU

Boarding FAQs

Please reach us at info@thehappyhoundplaypark.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Vaccinations MUST be administered a minimum of FOUR days in advance of a boarding start date. This allows your dog's system time to respond to the vaccination and allows you time to monitor for adverse reactions.

Required vaccinations

Puppies under 24 weeks old require:

  • two completed sets of Distemper combination vaccine

Dogs over 24 weeks old require:

  • three completed sets of Distemper combination vaccine
  • Rabies vaccine

Suggested Vaccinations

  • Bordetella
  • Flea, tick and lice preventive treatment

We do! We have an attendant supervising and monitoring all dogs 24/7, including in-person in-building overnight monitoring.

Timing depends a little on number of boarding guests we have. Each guest participates in the daycare program determined by their Meet & Greet and First Day of Daycare (Social, CLASS, or Personal Play):

5-6 am: First bathroom breaks

6-8 am: Breakfast and morning rest

8-11 am: Morning play programs

11 - 12:30 pm: Mid-day rest, lunches, one-on-one play, enrichment sessions & training

1 - 3:30 pm: Afternoon play programs

3:30 - 6:30 pm: Dinner and rest

6:30 - 8:30 pm: Evening activity and final bathroom breaks

We have private 6 ft tall fully-enclosed kennels ranging between 16 sq ft and 32 sq ft and home-style crates as well. Each kennel has a sound dampening roof and sound dampening dividers for privacy and comfort.

We put safety first always and will set your dog up with the accommodations that support their safety and comfort.

Sleep spaces are away from the play spaces so dogs who are resting can benefit from the break away from the activity.

We accept dogs of all sizes.

See our prices list for discounts for multi-dog stays

We do! We accept puppies for boarding who are over 12 weeks old. Puppies must have completed two series of Distemper-combination vaccine.

We accept intact dogs for boarding. Intact dogs over 8 months must attend daycare regularly with us  (at least once a week) so we are familiar with their play program and are suited for our social daycare or CLASS daycare. For intact dogs new to us, we may refer them to our Personal Play boarding option to begin, with adjustment to Social or CLASS possible once we are familiar with them.

No, we do not. A price is a price for our service, regardless of peak demand.

We are not an open-sleep concept (meaning all dogs stay out loose all day and all night), and do have large private sleep kennels for our guests.

We have a boarding prep program that can help your dog learn to positively rest in a private space, and we also work with the dogs during their stay or during daycare to learn to settle and disengage from activity and enjoy their time away.

We are unable to accept dogs in heat for boarding. If your dog begins their heat while with us, they will be required to be picked up.

A 50% deposit is due at time of booking to confirm boarding. The deposit, less a 3% administrative fee and 3% card processing fee, is refundable if the boarding booking is cancelled more than 7 days in advance of the boarding start date. If cancelled less than 7 days in advance, the deposit, less 3% administrative fee, is placed as a credit to be used within the following 90 days. If cancelled less than 24 hours in advanced of the boarding start date, the deposit is non-refundable or transferable.

Holiday cancellation: deposit can be refunded, less 3% administrative fee and 3% card processing fee, if cancelled more than 14 days in advance of boarding start date. For less than 14 days' notice, deposit less 3% administrative fee, is transferable to a credit to be used within 90 days. For less than 7 days notice, deposit is non-refundable or transferrable.
