At The Happy Hound Play Park, we know what it takes to make an amazing day. We meet your dog's emotional, psychological, physical and relational needs to promote their wellbeing and support your relationship with them. We have designed our facility and programs in-keeping with Fear Free principles.
We offer dog daycare and dog boarding for:
We follow a model of daycare that focuses on supporting the three essential components of a dogs day:
ACTIVITY
To achieve the absolute best play and activity experience for your dog during their day, we:
RELAXED WAKEFULNESS
To help dogs disengage from each play time and recharge for another, we not only incorporate rest breaks throughout the day, but also work with the dogs in our care to positively reinforce being in a calm relaxed state during rest. Our goal is to support your dog's overall psychological wellbeing and health, and actively looking out for this essential part of a dog's day is an important part of achieving this.
Support settle sessions are included in the cost of daycare and boarding. If we believe your dog would benefit from additional scheduled sessions with our trainer, we will let you know.
SLEEP
Less essential for our daycare guests, since they sleep at home with you, but still essential for us to incorporate into our programs is support for a good and proper sleep environment. Some dogs during daycare breaks do sleep as their required and necessary way to recharge. We have private spaces for each dog or sibling set so dogs can nap without worry of their personal space being encroached upon.
We are exceptionally proud of the program we have designed in-keeping with Fear Free principles of care for dogs. We understand not only what each dog needs, but also how to use the 3 Components of Care plus consistency and connection to build each dog's confidence and give them their best day.
We run very scheduled and structured programs during the day. To maximize the value for you and your dog, we limit lobby hours.
Edmonton's most-thoughtfully designed daycare. We have separate programs for dogs based on size and have extensive options for training enrichment, food enrichment or activity enrichment.
For dogs who are nervous or fearful around others or in new situations. We offer a safe place for your dog to build relationships with us and grow in confidence with others.
For dogs who become hyper-aroused or overstimulated and don't thrive in a social daycare setting, our personal play program provides your dog with one-on-one enrichment activity (agility, fetch, flirt pole, sniffaris, etc) and enrichment rest time.
Our four-week or six-week 12-day Day Train program is an ideal way to help your adolescent or adult dog hone obedience cues and responses or other challenges that you're working on at home.
Our four-week or six-week 12-day Puppy Kindergarten is a fantastic socialization and training support program which incorporates basic training and behaviour fundamentals to help your puppy have a solid foundation both socially and for future training.
We practice a rest and enrichment model of daycare. We have small, supervised play groups and we alternate between play and rest throughout the day. This allows us to have play groups that engage and play and which prevents dogs from becoming hyperaroused or over-stimulated.
We have a variety of play spaces and play structures to support your dog's socialization and to give them the most diverse and enriching day.
Our responsibility is to support your dog’s
ability to be awake but relaxed and to get
the reprieve from play they need to rest, charge
their social battery, and get ready for an
additional round of activity.
We have three positive-reinforcement trainers overseeing our daycare program, and all our care attendants complete hands-on and comprehensive dog body language and behaviour training. We incorporate agility games, sniffaris, obstacle courses and other structured play and rest into every day.
Not only do we separate dogs by play style, temperament, confidence and energy, we plan our play groups by size as well.
Dogs play with others their own size and energy level. Whether big or little, dogs enjoy the fun and safety of play partners who match them.
Each day your dog is with us, we'll send you a detailed email update informing you of how they're doing in their play program, how they're resting, and challenges or struggles they may be having, any recommendations we might have, and, if you bring a meal for them, how and whether they ate,
Each day, you'll receive an update on how your dog did during their activity time or social time. We let you know how they're enjoying and how they're engaging with or responding to others.
We'll give you an insight into how they play, what they enjoy, what type of play style they have or what kind of social engagement or play they enjoy, their style of communication, their deference to others, and what kind of play they enjoy.
We use the daily email update to provide you with information as we experience and observe it so you're always aware and there are no surprises if we do make recommendations for your dog.
Rest is essential to avoid hyperarousal in play and avoid exhausted dogs with depleted social batteries.
Break time between play sessions equals safe and positive play times. We truly let dogs PLAY when they're in play group, which we can achieve through having very small numbers in each play group.
During rest time, we support your dog in positively disengaging and practicing relaxed wakefulness. We hold settle sessions with resting dogs throughout the day and will keep you updated on whether they're resting well or having some challenges.
If we feel your dog could benefit from additional sessions or activity or food enrichment, we will inform you and keep you updated every day on how your dog is doing.
Daycare and play programs are about so much more than just fun; they're about enrichment, engagement, communication and play development.
As a dog ages and as time passes in their participation in daycare, they may begin to respond differently to familiar situations, settings or even friends. Their play preferences and behaviours may change, and sometimes they may come to daycare carrying stresses of recent experiences.
Some dogs age out of daycare and where they were once socially interested, they become socially tolerant, or they may begin to exhibit behaviours that aren't conducive to social play.
All these things impact how a dog engages with others and their behaviours and communication cues.
When we observe any challenges your dog is experiencing, or if we note they're communicating they need a change or that their social program or activity isn't what they need, we will inform you.
Our goal is to provide social engagement as long as your dog thrives and it benefits their wellbeing.

We do! We accept puppies after their second set of vaccinations. Puppies must have been in your home for at least one week and be 12 weeks of age.
We do accept intact dogs over 8 months old. Their play program, whether social group or personal play will be determined by their behaviour in social group and the other dogs' responses. If a dog isn't thriving in social group, our personal play program is ideal.
All dogs in our daycare program play naked! Naked play is the safest play for dogs.
We are unable to accept dogs in heat for boarding. If your dog begins their heat while with us, they will be required to be picked up.
