At The Happy Hound Play Park Dog Daycare in Edmonton, we know what it takes to make an amazing day. We meet your dog's emotional, psychological, physical and relational needs to promote their wellbeing and support your relationship with them.
We offer dog daycare and dog boarding for:
A few elements essential to the best daycare program:
We understand not only what each dog needs, but also how to use consistency and connection to build each dog's confidence and give them their best day.
We run very scheduled and structured programs during the day. To maximize the value for you and your dog, we limit lobby hours.
Your dog deserves a daycare program that nurtures their mind and encourages their confidence. We have a big picture goal for your dog when they come to daycare with us, and that goal is to see them on a path of consistent growth in their confidence, enjoyment of time and fulfilment with their relationships.
We follow the Social Measures of Success program to do all of this and to keep you informed of how your dog is doing within the program. Our daycare program is founded on what we'd want for our dogs and what we'd expect any caregiver to deliver on.
Our daycare program is not a "play all day" model. All dogs have rest periods throughout the day. Our programs are designed to enrich your dog's day with structured play and rest and to fill up their emotional and psychological stores instead of depleting them.
We practice a rest and enrichment model of daycare. We have small, supervised play groups and we alternate between play and rest throughout the day. This allows us to have play groups that engage and play and which prevents dogs from becoming hyperaroused or over-stimulated.
We have a variety of play spaces and play structures to support your dog's socialization and to give them the most diverse and enriching day.
Large indoor/outdoor parks, bright natural light, splash pool fun and separate play areas for little dogs and larger dogs make for your dog's best day away.
We have three positive-reinforcement trainers overseeing our daycare program, and all our care attendants complete hands-on and comprehensive dog body language and behaviour training. We incorporate agility games, sniffaris, obstacle courses and other structured play and rest into every day.
Dogs play with others their own size and energy level. Whether big or little, dogs enjoy the fun and safety of play partners who match them.
Each day your dog is with us, we'll send you an email update of how they're doing! We post photos every day to our Facebook and Instagram as well, but you can also add on an emailed photo to your daily update for only $4.
Edmonton's most-thoughtfully designed daycare. We have separate programs for dogs based on size, and have agility fun, enrichment games and options for all. We accept intact dogs over 8 months.
For dogs who are nervous or fearful around others or in new situations, this program is for you. We offer a safe place for your dog to build relationships with us and grow in confidence so they can slowly, safely be introduced to others as they're ready.
For dogs who become hyper-aroused or overstimulated and don't thrive in a social daycare setting, our personal play program provides your dog with one-on-one play & activity (splash pool, agility, fetch, flirt pole, sniffaris, etc) with enrichment rest time.
Our four-week or six-week 12-day Day Train program is an ideal way to help your adolescent or adult dog hone obedience cues and responses or other challenges that you're working on at home.
Our four-week or six-week 12-day Puppy Kindergarten is a fantastic socialization and training support program which incorporates basic training and behaviour fundamentals to help your puppy have a solid foundation both socially and for future training.
We want you to know everything. We send a daily email and give you updates after each day.
After a day of enrichment and positive activity, they come home ready for an evening of connection with you.
Dogs are relational, and strong relationships are founded in consistency and connection.
Week over week, you'll see the positive impact of expanding your dog's world and trusted circle of people.
Safe and enriching play is our priority, which means we have small play groups (under 15 dogs per group) and someone supervising in each group.
Your dog will participate in a carefully-curated play group matched to your dog's size, play style and play comfort.
We assess a dog’s ability to communicate, which is both their comprehension of the verbal and non-verbal indicators of other dogs and their ability to clearly and respectfully signal both verbally and non-verbally to others.
We observe a dog’s interest in others and receptivity to other dogs’ engagement and overtures. Not at all dogs need to love to play with others or be the life of the party, but we want to ensure your dog’s success and comfort with us, and social interest means being engaged with others in the way they’re comfortable with, which provides value and enrichment to their day.
We want to ensure that a daycare program adds value, and being comfortable with the new means they’re confident enough to get value from and growth within a social program.
We evaluate each dog’s learned play behaviours and assess where on the spectrum they may be for social maturity and experience. Dogs learn from their environment and from available play partners, and it’s important for us to know and understand where they are currently in their play style and development so we can best support their development and understand their needs.
